Nike's golf research and design engineers have enhanced the playability and distance of the 2014 VRS Covert 2.0 Tour fairway wood. They have come back with a different club head shape and design elements that make this a long bombing machine. Let's take a look at what makes the Nike VRS Covert 2.0 Tour fairway wood the best fairway wood that Nike has made to date.
The VRS Covert 2.0 Tour fairway wood features a unique fly-brace technology. This ties the sole to the crown of the golf club. With this technology, when a golf ball is struck, the rear portion of the golf club stiffens up, which creates more stability in the golf club. The stiffened rear portion of the club then transfers energy back to the face. The fly-brace technology increases the amount of total energy restored to the face, with the high-speed cavity back design aiding the process. Both of these features are design elements that create longer and straighter golf shots.
Nike engineers have reengineered the NexCOR face for 2014. The enhancements to the face of the golf club produce faster ball speeds that lead to increased distance. The overall design of the golf club has shifted the body closer to the ground. With the club closer to the ground, the center of gravity (CG) has been dropped 2.5 millimeters causing the spin rate to also drop by more than 650 revolutions per minute. The reduction of spin creates a flatter trajectory for the golf shot. The breakthrough in club face design make this fairway wood the hottest Nike has ever created.
The Flexloft adjustability is returning to the 2014 Nike product line. The Flexloft lets the golfer customize the fairway wood to their specific needs. It allows for an adjustment in loft (in 1° increments) and face angle separately from each other. The 3 wood can be adjusted between 13° and 17° degrees, while the 5 wood can be adjusted between 17° and 21° degrees. The face angle can also be set to three different positions: left, neutral or right. The fairway wood comes with a wrench that makes all of the changes simple and easy. The ability to adjust the two will create the optimal launch needed for maximum distance and accuracy.
The Nike VRS Covert 2.0 Tour woods features a Mitsubishi Rayon Kuro Kage Silver graphite shaft. The shaft weights 70 grams and has a higher balance point than previous models, aiding the trajectory of the golf ball. The new shaft has a titanium nickel fiber shaft tip for additional reinforcement. The reinforced shaft tip adds stability and reduces spin for a piercing ball flight that produces maximum distance.
This year Nike has made a tour fairway wood that will enhance all skill levels. The fly-brace technology showcases state-of-the-art technology that produces superior energy transfer throughout the clubhead for extreme distance. The Flexloft adjustability allows the golfer to take command and custom fit the fairway wood to their specific needs. The fairway wood's club head size and reengineered NexCOR face achieve maximum playability and forgiveness resulting in longer golf shots.
